Rondatel S.A. (Frigorífico Rosario) carried out its first test slaughter on Wednesday, October 22, after being inactive since July 2023, more than two years ago. Yesterday, Tuesday 28, it made the second testing slaughter.
The first test involved 41 cattle, mostly heifers, along with some cows and steers. The production of both slaughter days will be destined for the domestic market, once authorized for sale by the National Meat Institute (INAC).
The company plans to conduct possibly a third slaughter this month.
Rondatel is owned by a Chinese investment group, which also holds 50% ownership of Frigorífico Lorsinal. The remaining half of Lorsinal belongs to another Chinese group. For now, there is no set date for Lorsinal to resume operations.
In 2023, Frigorífico Rosario processed nearly 17,000 head of cattle before halting operations in mid-July. That same year, it exported 2,821 tons of meat products, worth US$ 12.3 million. China accounted for 93% of its shipments, followed by Portugal (4%).
